The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) heat is rising as 22nd July, the scheduled day for the exam, is approaching. We know that most of you are already in the final lap of your preparation. Still, it would not be a bad idea to look into the exam structure, sections, marking, etc, and reinforce the basics of the FMGE exam in our minds.

How the FMGE Exam is Held: The Exam Pattern

Mode of the FMGE Exam: The FMGE is an online exam, which means that it is conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) at centres allotted to candidates by the examining authority.

Exam Sections: The FMGE exam is divided into two sections.

Part A: Consists of pre- and para-clinical subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, General Surgery, Forensic Medicine, Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Radio-diagnosis and Paediatrics

Part B: Consists of clinical subjects, including Medicine, Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, Psychiatry, Dermatology and STDs, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Otorhinolaryngology and Community Medicine

Number of Questions: The exam includes 300 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) testing the candidate’s medical knowledge comprehensively.

Language of the Exam: The FMGE Exam is conducted in the English language only.

Duration: Each part of the exam is scheduled for 150 minutes (2.5 hours).

How the Marks are Awarded: Marking Scheme

To clear the FMGE Exam, you need to secure at least 50% of the total marks. This means that you will have to get a minimum of 150 correct answers out of the total 300 questions asked in the exam. Every question carries a weightage of 1 mark.

Correct Answer: The candidates get 1 mark for every correct answer.

Incorrect Answer: There is no negative marking in the FMGE exam. So even if you are unsure about the answer, a logical guesswork will not do any harm.

Unanswered Questions: 0 marks
