Foreign Medical Graduate Examination is a screening test for graduates to become eligible for medical practice in the country. Furthermore, FMGE exam is conducted twice every year in the months of June and December. Read on to know more about FMGE exam 2024
It is carried out by the National Board of Examinations. Besides, the FMGE exam is for Indian and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs). They can obtain the registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council after this exam.
An Indian citizen or overseas citizen of India must past this screening test. The need arises if their primary qualification is from a medical institution outside India. This enables them to get a provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council.
Eligibility Criteria for FMGE Exam
Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) are supposed to fulfill some FMGE eligibility criteria to appear for the exam. To begin with, candidates applying to FMGE must be either an Indian national or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
In addition, medical aspirants should obtain the necessary primary medical qualification and must obtain their MBBS degrees before the stipulated period for a particular session. The MBBS degree of the FMGs must be further awarded by institutions that are included in the World Directory of Medical Schools as listed by
the World Health Organization (WHO).
Besides, any institution duly attested by the Indian embassy concerned for the candidates to be recognized as medical practitioners in India is also sufficient.
All the Foreign Medical Graduates are further required to provide documents in support of the primary medical education from the foreign medical institution concerned. Candidates with a postgraduate medical degree obtained in the countries of Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the
United States of America may not appear in the FMGE screening test. They can directly register with MCI/SMC.
