The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released the schedule for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) December Session. The exam shall be tentatively held on January 17, 2026, in two shifts.

Morning session: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Afternoon session: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM

The FMGE is a mandatory licensing examination for doctors who have completed their primary medical qualification from a foreign country, to be eligible to practice medicine or continue postgraduate medical education in India. Those doctors who graduated from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, or the USA are exempted from FMGE as their medical degrees are recognized by the NMC (National Medical Commission).

The FMGE Eligibility

An aspirant should check the following criteria to be eligible to attempt the FMGE 2026 exam:

• The attendee should be an Indian citizen or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
• Must hold a primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized foreign institution.
• The qualification must be verified by the Indian Embassy of that country.

Exam Pattern and Structure – FMGE Jan 2026

• Mode: Computer-Based Test
• Number of Questions: 300
• Sections:
  Part A: 150 MCQs (Pre-clinical & Para-clinical)
  Part B: 150 MCQs (Clinical)
• Duration: 150 minutes per part
• Marking Scheme:
  Correct Answer: +1 mark
  Incorrect Answer: No negative marking
• QualifyingCriteria : Minimum 150 out of 300 (50%) required to pass
