FMGE is a critical exam for foreign medical graduates seeking to register and practice medicine in India. With thousands of candidates appearing each year, the exam is known for its rigorous standards. From understanding the eligibility criteria and application process to mastering the exam pattern and syllabus, this blog will guide you through all the essential details to help you confidently prepare and succeed in FMGE 2025.
The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a qualifying test or licensing test conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for Indian citizens or overseas citizens of India with medical qualifications from institutions abroad. Qualifying the FMGE allows candidates to obtain provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or State Medical Council (SMC) to practise in India. FMGE 2025 will continue to be an essential gateway for foreign medical graduates who want to pursue a medical career in India.
For FMGE 2025, the FMGE exam is expected to be conducted in June and December. Candidates are advised to frequently visit the official website for the latest updates on dates and deadlines to complete their registration within the specified time frame.
To be eligible for FMGE 2025, candidates must meet the following criteria:
The application process for FMGE 2025 will be entirely online, and the forms will be available on the official NBE website. Candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before filling out the form. The application process requires uploading personal details, educational qualifications, identity proof, and passport-sized photographs.
After the application process closes, the NBEMS typically opens a correction window, allowing candidates to fix any mistakes in their application forms. It is important to note that while you can correct deficiencies related to uploaded images such as your photograph, signature, and thumb impression, other key fields like name, date of birth, nationality, test city, mobile number, and email ID cannot be edited during this period. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully review all information before submission to avoid complications.
FMGE 2025 will be held in various designated centres across India. While filling out the application form, candidates can select four preferred test cities. However, the final allocation of the exam centre is determined by NBEMS based on administrative and logistical and security parameters. Choosing a city does not guarantee a centre in that location, and if seats are unavailable in your chosen cities, NBE may assign a centre elsewhere in the country.
FMGE is a computer-based test conducted in two parts. The total exam duration is 5 hours, and the paper consists of 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each part of the exam has 150 MCQs and is conducted in English. There is no negative marking in the exam.
