A Breakdown of FMGE Exam Including Many of Its Facets

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) or MCI screening test is a national level exam. The exam is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) twice a year in the months of June and December.
It is a licensure exam for candidates who are citizens of India/Overseas citizens of India who possess a medical degree awarded by a foreign college of university. Passing this exam is necessary for getting Provisional or Permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Qualifying the FMGE enables foreign medical graduates to practice medicine in India. Read on to explore the important aspects of FMGE.

FMGE Exam Pattern

FMGE is a computer-based exam comprising two papers. First paper should be attempted in the morning session whereas the second in the forenoon session. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 45 minutes per session. This includes the 15 minutes for the tutorial. The language used in the exam is English.
The exam comprises 300 questions. A total of 150 questions for each paper. Test duration of each paper is 150 minutes. No negative marking is involved and weightage of MCQs will vary.

Eligibility Criteria For FMGE

The eligibility criteria For FMGE of a candidate must be a citizen of India or an Overseas citizen of India. Candidates need to possess primary medical qualification which is confirmed by the Indian Embassy to be a recognised qualification for enrolment as medical practitioner in the country in which the Institution awarding the said qualification is situated. It is necessary for the candidate to show the proof of passing the primary medical qualification on or before the cutoff date.
