In today’s era, a large number of Indian students are moving abroad to pursue their dream of becoming doctors. Normally, after completing their studies in foreign countries , many doctors return India to practice here. If you are one of them, then the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is the ticket to your medical career in India. In this blog, we will look at all the eligibility criteria for the FMGE exam.

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a national-level licensure exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). This examination is for candidates who are Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India and hold a Medical Degree awarded by a foreign college or university, aspiring to practice medicine in India. FMGE is mandatory to obtain eligibility to practice medicine in India. The exam is conducted twice a year, usually in June and December.

Are you eligible to apply for FMGE?

  • A foreign medical graduate appearing for FMGE should meet the latest eligibility criteria set by the National Board of Examinations.
  • The criteria are as follows:
  • The candidate must be a citizen of India or an Overseas Citizen of India.
  • Candidates need to possess a primary medical qualification from any recognized institution, confirmed by the Indian Embassy of that country.
  • It is mandatory for the candidate to provide proof of passing the primary medical qualification on or before the cutoff date.

Candidates who fail to fulfill the above-mentioned criteria will not be allowed to take up the screening test.

Candidates who possess an undergraduate medical qualification from countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America are recognized. Such candidates need not appear for the screening test to obtain the eligibility certificate.
