Home NMC Cancels NEXT Mock Exam; Registration Fee to be Refunded

The National Exit Test (NExT) mock exam scheduled for July 28 has been cancelled by the NMC

Days after the National Medical Commission announced to defer the NExT exam, the mock exam is also cancelled. On the suggestion of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the NExT exam had previously been postponed by NMC until further notice on July 13.

“Dear Students #NExT Mock will be cancelled and fee refunded,” Dr. Yogender Malik, a member of the NMC Ethics and Medical Education Registration Board, tweeted.

As assured by authorities, The students will receive a refund of the registration amount they paid to complete the NExT mock exam. The registration fees for the Students from the General or OBC category was Rs 2000. while those from the SC, ST, and EWS categories had to pay Rs 1,000 registration fee in order to take the NExT mock exam. There was big criticism from students against the commission for charging the mock examination.

The NExT was recently mandated under the National Medical Commission Act to replace the final MBBS examination and act as a licentiate exam to register and practice modern medicine in India. However, several medical associations, medical professionals, and MBBS students were not satisfied with the implementation of the new scheme.

The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had already announced that there would be no NExT Exam for the 2019 MBBS Batch. As per the available information, the new system will likely be applicable to the 2020 MBBS Batch, graduating in 2024.
