FMGE, which stands for the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, is a licensing examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations. If you are an Indian citizen or overseas citizen of India who completed your primary medical graduation from an institution outside India and wish to practice in your homeland, then you have to clear this examination. It is a must for you to register with the National Medical Council (NMC) or State Medical Council (SMC) and legally practice medicine here.

The exam is conducted twice a year, usually in June and December sessions. In the December 2024 session, out of the 45,550 candidates registered for the exam, 31,236 failed to achieve the minimum passing score. Only 13,149 (29.62%) candidates passed. However, it was the highest pass rate in the last three sessions.

FMGE 2025: subject-wise weightage

The FMGE 2025 syllabus aligns with the MBBS curriculum taught in Indian medical colleges and it includes subjects from pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical areas. Each subject has varying weightage in the exam. You will face more questions from surgery and medicine and a very few number of questions from areas like psychiatry.

The exam is computer-based and there will be a total of 300 multiple-choice questions in the exam. The exam is divided into two papers of 150 questions each. For each paper, you will get 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete it, so the total exam duration is 5 hours.

We hope this information was helpful for you. Try to start preparing well in advance for a sure success. Also, try to give more emphasis on the topics which have higher weightage.
