FMGE countdown: Essential tips for the final week preparation

Many medical aspirants in India pursue their medical degrees from other nations, seeking top-notch training and diverse clinical experiences. However, medical professionals who have acquired their degrees from other countries must overcome an additional hurdle, the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), to practice medicine in India.

FMGE is a national-level test conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India. The exam is conducted biannually, usually in June and December. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) need to prepare diligently for the FMGE as the test date is fast approaching. With the exam date set for July 6th, 2024, it’s time to ramp up your preparation and conquer this crucial hurdle.

Understanding the exam format

Preparing for the FMGE can be a daunting task. But with the right approach, it is possible to succeed. To prepare effectively, one should first understand the exam format.

Mode of examination: computer-based test

Number of parts: two parts (Part A & Part B)

Number of questions: 300 MCQs, with Part A containing 100 questions and Part B containing 200 questions.

Core areas: Pre- and Para Clinical Subjects and Clinical Subjects

Exam duration: 2.5 hours for each part

Study strategies for the final preparation

Here are some effective study strategies to help you make the most of your final week of preparation:

  • Review high-yield topics: Focus on revising topics that are frequently tested and carry significant weightage in the exam.
  • Practice previous years’ papers: Familiarize yourself with the exam pattern and question types by solving previous years’ papers.
  • Create a revision schedule: Allocate specific time slots for each subject or topic based on your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Take mock tests: Take full-length mock tests to simulate exam conditions and assess your readiness.
  • Last-minute revision: In the final days leading up to the exam, focus on quick revisions rather than attempting to learn new topics.

You can approach the FMGE confidently with diligent preparation and strategic studying. If you have any doubts or need any assistance in the exam preparation, feel free to contact StudyFMGE, a sister concern of StudyMEDIC.
