FMGE December 2023 Registration Started; Exam on Jan 20, 2024; Key Details Here

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has started registration for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) December 2023. The online application through the official website, natboard.edu.in, was made live at 3 pm on November 23, 2023. Aspirants can confirm their seats until December 13 at 11:55 pm. The examination is scheduled for January 20, 2024. 

Who Can Apply? 

” The candidate should possess a primary medical qualification, which is confirmed by the Indian Embassy concerned, to be a recognized qualification for enrolment as medical practitioner in the country in which the institution awarding the said qualification is situated.”, Reads the official notification.  

How to Apply? 

Step 1:

Visit the official website of NBEMS — natboard.edu.in

Step 2:

Click on the ‘FMGE December 2023 Examination’ link on the homepage. 

Step 3:

You will be guided to a new page with the registration link. 

Step 4:

Fill out the registration form with all the required information and submit the form. 

Step 5:

Complete the FMGE application form and make the payment of application fees. 

Step 6:

Submit it and save the page for future reference. 

Candidates can edit and fine-tune their submissions from December 15 to December 18, 2023. During this time, candidates can correct any information, except for critical details like name, test city, nationality, mobile number, and email id.  

The final opportunity to rectify errors related to document uploads in the application will be available from January 5 to 8, 2024. The FMGE December 2023 admit card will be available on the official website from January 12, 2024.  

The FMGE exam is scheduled for January 20, and as per the current updates, results are expected to be released on February 20, 2024.

NBEMS 2024 Examination Calendar Out; FMGE December Exam Slated for January 20 Tentatively!

NBE Exam Calendar 2024: The FMGE December exam is scheduled for January 20, and June 2024 exam will be conducted on June 30.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Science (NBEMS) has released the exam calendar for FMGE. According to the notification from NBEMS, FMGE December 2023 will be held on January 20, 2024. Additionally, FMGE June 2024 exam is scheduled for June 30, with details to be announced in the information bulletin. All the dates are tentative and subject to approvals and confirmations.


Along with FMGEE, the exam dates for various entrance exams, including NEET PG, NEET MDS, and others, have also been announced. According to the schedule, NEET MDS 2024 exam will be conducted on February 9, 2024, and NEET PG exam on March 3, 2024.

FET 2023 will be conducted on February 18,2024 . The NBEMS Diploma Practical Examination – Dec 2023 exam is scheduled to be conducted in February or March 2024. In March, along with NEET PG, NBEMS will also conduct Foreign Dental Screening Test (MDS Degree and PG Diploma) 2023. The FNB Exit Examination 2023 is also scheduled to be held in March or April.

DNB/DrNB Final Theory Examinations – April 2024 will be conducted on on April 24, 25, 26, and 27, 2024. DNB-Post Diploma CET 2024 will be held on May 19, 2024 an Formative Assessment Test 2023 on June 9, 2024. NBEMS Diploma Final Examination June 2024 will be on June 13, 14, and 15, 2024.

  • Also additional documents like eligibility certificate (if applicable) , provisional pass certificate, apostilled degree certificate of their primary medical qualification attested by Indian embassy if required.

Graduates from countries such as Australia, Canad, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America are exempted from attempting FMGE. Instead they can obtain a provisional/permanent certificate from the national medical commission or state medical council. Once they receive this certificate they can practice medicine in India.
Candidates are allowed a maximum of three attempts to clear the FMGE. Failing to pass within these attempts disqualifies them from further participation.

NMC Cancels NExT Mock Exam; Registration Fee to be Refunded

The National Exit Test (NExT) mock exam scheduled for July 28 has been cancelled by the NMC.

Days after the National Medical Commission announced to defer the NExT exam, the mock exam is also cancelled. On the suggestion of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the NExT exam had previously been postponed by NMC until further notice on July 13.

“Dear Students #NExT Mock will be cancelled and fee refunded,” Dr. Yogender Malik, a member of the NMC Ethics and Medical Education Registration Board, tweeted.

As assured by authorities, The students will receive a refund of the registration amount they paid to complete the NExT mock exam. The registration fees for the Students from the General or OBC category was Rs 2000. while those from the SC, ST, and EWS categories had to pay Rs 1,000 registration fee in order to take the NExT mock exam. There was big criticism from students against the commission for charging the mock examination.

The NExT was recently mandated under the National Medical Commission Act to replace the final MBBS examination and act as a licentiate exam to register and practice modern medicine in India. However, several medical associations, medical professionals, and MBBS students were not satisfied with the implementation of the new scheme.

The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had already announced that there would be no NExT Exam for the 2019 MBBS Batch. As per the available information, the new system will likely be applicable to the 2020 MBBS Batch, graduating in 2024.

National Exit Test (NExT) Deferred Until Further Notice, Confirms NMC

NExT has been deferred for final-year MBBS students of the 2019 batch till further notice.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) publish a public notice confirming the NExT has been postponed till further directions on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). However, there is no clarity regarding the NExT mock test announced by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on the 28th of July 2023.

“All the stakeholders are hereby informed that the National Exit Test (NExT) examination is deferred on the advice of the Ministry, dated 11.07.2023, till further directions,” stated the public notice issued by the NMC Secretary Pulkesh Kumar.

The NExT was recently mandated under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act to replace the final MBBS examination and act as a licentiate exam to register and practice modern medicine in India. Additionally, it was recommended as the basis for determining eligibility and ranking for admission to PG medical courses.

Starting from the beginning, several medical associations, medical professionals, and MBBS students were not satisfied with the implementation of NExT .

Recently, at an event at AIIMS Raipur, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that there would be no NExT Exam for the 2019 MBBS Batch. Even though the minister assured that the exam would not replace the final MBBS examinations, there was no official announcement regarding confirmation.

Now with the NMC update, the NExT exam has been postponed till further notice from the Health Ministry. However, the future of the NExT examinations and its implementation is still in question.

No NExT for 2019 MBBS Batch; Says Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya

The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that the National Exit Test (NExT) will not be mandatory for the 2019 MBBS batch.

Raipur: The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya made it clear that the National Exit Test (NExT) will not be applicable to the 2019 MBBS batch. He was addressing the students at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur during the inauguration of a critical care unit.

“No student is required to undergo any stress. I’m not bringing the 2019 batch under NExT. I will bring the 2020 batch under it. NExT will not be held in this year,” said the minister.

At the same time All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will conduct a sample mock test for the final year MBBS students on July 28, 2023 to get familiar with the exam pattern. Aspirants can apply for the mock exit test from 28 June 2023, until July 10, 2023, through the official website – next.aiimsexams.ac.in.

What is NExT?

National Exit Test or NExT is the uniform national medical licensure exam for MBBS graduates. The examination serves as a common licentiate exam to practise modern medicine, for merit-based admission to postgraduate courses, and as a screening exam for foreign medical graduates who want to practise in India. It replaces both the Foreign Medical Graduates Exam (FMGE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET-PG).

Starting from the beginning, several medical associations, medical professionals, and MBBS students were not satisfied with the new scheme. Reacting to the response of the Union Minister, several doctors and MBBS students thanked the minister and asked the National Medical Commission (NMC) to make changes in the new exam before implementing it for students.
